CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

MEET ALBERTE

Alberte Shebina Eugene is from Haiti and joined NAAM in August of 2023. Living as a single mom with her daughter, Alberte Shebina was struggling to make ends meet. She had very limited English and even admitted to feeling like a failure at that time. She felt that her dreams of living in the U.S. for a better life were obstructed by the challenges she was facing. After she enrolled with NAAM, she was inspired by the services provided and saw them as the way to achieve her dreams.

She attended NAAM English classes regularly and after one year, her English improved dramatically. As her English proficiency improved and with the assistance of the NAAM team, she got an offer for her dream job CNA and has since received glowing performance reviews. She thanks NAAM for providing services that helped her achieve her goals and boost her confidence, both in her field and with her family's lives.

“Once again, I would like to express my special gratitude to the NAAM office in Lowell for helping me on the path of education and empowerment.

MEET AHMAD

Ahmad Jawid Majidi moved to Lowell, Massachusetts, with his 4 children after the domination of Afghanistan by the Taliban. In Afghanistan, he worked as a cleaner on a military base. After joining NAAM and learning about the services we offer, he was determined to take full advantage of everything we have to offer. Working with us, he realized the importance of working towards eliminating obstacles to expand his career opportunities. He attends English classes regularly, and through NAAM, he found a job as a Warehouse Associate at the Marshalls Distribution Center.

“I am very happy and grateful to be here in [the] USA with my family. Now I am almost standing on my own two feet.”

Ahmad Jawid is also grateful for NAAM not only helping him but helping his family. Due to some structural barriers preventing women in Afghanistan from obtaining education, Ahmad Jawid is grateful that NAAM has provided his wife the opportunity to learn English through our English classes.

The Majidi family is very optimistic and hopeful that with NAAM’s help, they will be able to build a stable life in the United States.

MEET FAWZIYA

Fawziya Abdi Roble and her family were refugees in Turkey for many years, where she worked hard to obtain an education. She studied nursing there, but her studies were interrupted when the family was forced to return to Somalia. In Somalia, the family was attacked by militias, one of the sisters killed and the father and brother forced to flee for their lives. Fawziya and the remaining family members arrived in the U.S. in June, 2022.

We enrolled Fawziya and her brother, Sheikh, in our Comprehensive Refugee Employment Services (CRES) soon after their arrival and they have taken full advantage of our programs, participating in employment services, ESL classes, DRIVE, our food reimbursement program (until its conclusion last period.) Fawziya is working part-time for a local healthcare agency as a housekeeper, fulfilling the role of caretaker for her disabled mother and sister, for which she receives a stipend through the Quality Care agency and just completed a phlebotomy course through Spectrum Health Care Institute, one of the local health care agencies with whom we partner. She recently informed us that she has succeeded in purchasing a car, which will be of enormous help not only in terms of her own transportation to work, but in terms of helping transport her mom and sister to medical appointments.

Perhaps most inspiring about Fawziya’s successes over the past year is observing her incredible perseverance and resilience. She is a client who has overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to build a life here for herself and her surviving family, with grace and gratitude.
