Volunteer With Us
We rely on dedicated volunteers to provide many of our services to clients. We happily welcome new volunteers who are able to work independently with minimal supervision and who have an interest or experience in one of our program areas. Volunteer opportunities at NAAM include:
Volunteering for the Youth:
Youth volunteers are a necessary part of the program. Up to 40 middle and high school students may come in one afternoon and many require 1-on-1 homework assistance or tutoring. Many students are newly arrived and are still learning English. These students need extra attention so that they will not fall behind in school. Volunteers also play games and interact with students, monitoring student behavior and maintaining a positive environment. We ask that volunteers in the youth program commit to at least one day a week during youth program hours (Mon-Thurs, 3-5pm). Prior experience working with youth and/or tutoring is useful but not necessary. Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As class sizes are large, our English students benefit from extra attention and support. Students who have never learned to read or write in their own language need additional support in becoming literate in English. Literacy volunteers work 1-on-1 or with small groups. It is preferred that literacy volunteers have prior experience. English volunteers without literacy experience may also work with ESL by leading conversation groups or study circles. For all English volunteers, English teaching experience is preferred; however, we can provide some support and training for dedicated individuals. We ask that English volunteers commit to at least one day a week during ESL program hours (Monday to Thursday, 9:30am-12:00pm). Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at email@example.com.
Help to Bring food to our Students and Clients:
On Thursdays we will be happy to see you helping us to sort and pack food to bags and boxes, organize the shelves with food items at the Clifton church in Marblehead or deliver bags full of fresh produce, meat and dairy products to our families. Love baking? Our kids will be thrilled to taste your cookie! If interested please SIGN UP.
Other Ways to Contribute:
Those with experience in another area related to our services are also encouraged to volunteer. Some examples of valuable experience include: interpreting, website maintenance, dance or arts, immigration or law, health, elders, or event planning. You may contact the office for more information on how to contribute skills in these areas. Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
