Volunteer opportunities at NAAM include:

Translation & Interpretation:

We are constantly seeking volunteers to serve as interpreters during meetings, appointments, and trainings and to translate important documents. If you are fluent in one or more of these languages, please reach out!

  • Dari
  • Pashto
  • Arabic
  • Farsi
  • Haitian Creole
  • Swahili
  • French
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
  • Russian
  • Ukrainian

Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at info@naamass.org. If you speak a language that is not listed above, we would still be happy to connect in case we receive newcomers who speak that language.

English-to-work, ESL/Civics Classes Volunteers:

As class sizes are large and held over Zoom, we are seeking volunteers who can provide some extra support to our students both within and outside of the classroom. Having a volunteer to help facilitate higher level courses provides the ability to utilize Zoom’s breakout rooms and have smaller conversation groups. We also need volunteers who are willing to meet with students one-on-one or in small groups in order to provide additional tutoring, lead conversation groups, facilitate mock citizenship interviews, and support study circles.

Some of our students have never learned to read or write in their own language and need additional support in becoming literate in English. As such, experience in teaching English as a second language is preferred; however, we can provide some support and training for dedicated individuals. Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at info@naamass.org.

Youth Programs:

During the school year, we host youth programs at the New American Center from 3-5 pm. In addition to coordinating fun activities such as arts and science projects, games, and reading we provide one-on-one homework assistance and tutoring. Many of our students are newly arrived and are still learning English. These students need extra attention so that they will not fall behind in school.

Prior experience working with youth, tutoring, and/or in teaching ESL is strongly preferred but not required, as we can provide some support and training for dedicated individuals. We ask that volunteers in the youth program commit to at least one day a week during youth program hours (Monday through Thursday, 3-5pm). Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at info@naamass.org.

Other Ways to Contribute:

Those with experience in another area related to our services are also encouraged to volunteer. Some examples of valuable experience include: website design, immigration law, and event planning. We are also seeking individuals who have experience navigating community resources such as school enrollment, affordable housing, and local healthcare systems. Finally, we are always looking for people who are willing to volunteer their time to drive our clients to important medical and employment appointments. Interested? Please fill out the form to your right or email us at info@naamass.org.
