Mia Poppe Mountain, Comprehensive Refugee Employment Services (CRES) ESL School Director & ESL Instructor
Mia is a Level 1 ESL Instructor. She fell in love with the field while taking Sheltered English Immersion at Salem State University as a part of school librarian licensure. She has been a circulation and reference librarian for several years in both public and academic settings, focusing on digital literacy and source criticism instruction for patrons.
Mia is currently enrolled in SSU’s graduate certificate program in TESOL. Her favorite academic topics currently are examining cross-linguistic language transfer, raising multilingual awareness, and creating culturally responsive classrooms. She holds a dual master’s degree in History and Library Science from Simmons College and a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Fordham University; a good portion of her major was completed abroad at Oxford University. Her hobbies include flamenco fusion dance, drawing, and wandering New England forests with her husband, son, and one-eyed husky.
